DINAGYANG 2016 WINNERS AND OFFICIAL RESULTS

Dinagyang 2016 Champion Tribu Salognon Winning Performance

In a surprising twist, Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School snatched the title of the defending champion winning the Dinagyang title for the first time since their first participation in 2004 ending the three year domination of the defending champion Tribu Panayanon of Iloilo City National High School who was shockingly shot out of the Top 5 places due to the 20 point deduction-rule stipulated by the Dinagyang Foundation Inc. agreed by different tribes on props, risers and platform heights which will not exceed six (6) feet and fourteen (14) feet in depth.
Aside from the top prize, Tribu Salognon also collected some special awards from opening salvo to the main competition awards like Performance, Choreography and Costume. 1st runner-up went to Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School, 2nd runner-up went to Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School, 3rd runner-up went to Tribu Paghidaet of Lapaz National High School and 4th runner-up went to Tribu Baybayanon of Melchor L. Nava National High School, Calumpang, Molo District, Iloilo City.

Dinagyang Festival competition which was started in 1970 is the only Philippine festival that has an official mascot named Dagoy and the winning tribe goes on a world tour in promoting not just the festival but also the Philippines as a tourist destination.

The 64th Miss Universe 2015 which took place last December 20, 2015 at the Axis Theater of the Planet Hollywood Resorts and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA made headlines around the world for the wrong announcement of winners and awkward crowning moment of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
