My First Hosting Of Foreign Tourist

I have my experience of hosting a foreign tourist last July 10, 2009 when Derek Imai, a Canadian of Japanese descent with his daughter Abe pays us a visit to travel and wander around the Philippines' marvels and to visit Abe's playmate in Baguio City. They arrived at 5:30 pm but still look enthusiastic to roam around and see places. Abe after a while of rest, quickly ran outside to play with kids and ride a bike. She is friendly and can easily adjust to her environment while Derek go around and talk to our neighbors, getting to know each other and learn something from them. Both of them are outgoing, friendly and felt at home with their new environment. When its already late, they went inside and I talk with them and and kids in after awhile dinner is served with rice, noodles, fish. They like it since they eat the same food back in Canada. At 9pm, Abe went to sleep first while I chat with Derek about Canada, the current events in the country, and any interesting things about sports and entertainment while we watch tv a comedy show Bubble Gang, Philippines' most hilarious and longest running comedy show. I showed him the photo album of our family and tell them a short description of it. It's already midnight when we slept. The next day its raining hard so Abe with her playmates stay inside and chat but Abe wonder why they stay outside when kids back in Canada go and play outside when its raining. I explained to her that parents don't allow their kids to play outside to prevent catching cold and fever. After awhile when the rain is almost over we were asked by mum to buy something for lunch in the market so I bring Derek and Abe with me and the rest of the gang to roam around and see our little town of Alimodian, a small sleepy laidback town of 39,000 people located in the southwest Iloilo, Philippines. We return then they eat for lunch before leaving for Cebu. Although they only stayed for a day but for me it's an experience of a lifetime. An experience which is worth remembering and worth learning from. In return, I can visit or even work and live in Canada in the future and hopefully I coud visit Derek and Abe which once become my visitors and my friends!

Poor Miss Universe, Fall of Trump

Miss Universe through the years has been the most glamorous & prestigious pageant every woman aspires for. The best thing about being a woman, a celebration of womanhood and femininity is exemplified in Miss Universe. It was one of the most watched events annually as it is important to pursue its causes and raises awareness on several issues and campaigns. It gained reputation across the globe due to its charitable causes, quality and standards of delegates, the prize, travel and meeting world figures & celebrities, opportunity to pursue plans & careers and enforce platforms and the glamorous staging of events. Women aspires it for glitz, glamour and fame it brings. Its heyday in the 50s through 90s saw the pageant draws several gorgeous ladies from all corners of the world, imagine how prim and proper the ladies were, the classic timeless beauty that graced the Miss Universe stage, their gowns and moves were not astounding as per today’s standard but the personality and character innate in these ladies were regal, of class, with bearing and a pedigree of breeding and sophistication through the years incomparable that you rarely see in today’s Miss Universe monopolized by Donald Trump.
Since the inception of Miss Universe under Donald Trump’s empire in 1996, everything has changed and there is a great transformation & evolution of Miss Universe. The pageant has become expensive, has a modern touch, the qualities of delegates being sent, and more about business & commercialism. The catapulting truths about the vanishing of a true Miss Universe is that the distinction of being universal, of magnanimous respect and admiration, and with pure untainted substance is marred by commercialism, controversies and noise further stained by the monopolizing Trump’s empire.
The classic timeless early years of the pageant until the early 90s is unmatched and has failed to surpass and exceeded by the declining worth of Trump’s Miss Universe.
Miss Universe was taken over by Donald Trump in 1996 to demonstrate what he believes the superiority of the Latina and Aryan race, promote and ensure the protection and benefits of his business interests and attempts to monopolize everything and galvanize his magnanimity yet stigmatic stature. The start of Trump’s take over saw tremendous changes in a pageant touted as the most reputable glamorous event for and about women. The winners and semi finalists looks like more of a Playboy magazine cover than a woman of substance and form with lots of respect and admiration. The main reason here is that half of the semifinalist is personally handpicked by the womanizing Trump disregarding the more legitimate and at par with the standards scores of the preliminary judges. The chutzpah of Trump says Miss Universe winners chosen during his take over were the most beautiful in the history of the pageant well beauty is in the eye of the beholder or shall I say the consensus is against his hallucinations.
There are already lots of faux pas in Miss Universe since after the womanizer Trump’s takeover. In 1998 Miss Universe after Wendy Fitzwilliam was declared the winner, when a candidate suddenly grabs her almost toppling her to the ground. This is an early indication that Miss Universe is not for Donald Trump because it could only spell misfortune, disgrace and eventual downfall and bankruptcy for him. Year after year semifinalists chosen were almost the same set for Miss Universe is as such so that countries selected will be of Donald Trump’s interest but not in 1999 when the Philippines almost won the crown since we all know Philippines is one of the most ugliest countries in the eyes of Donald Trump and since then he learned his lesson to make sure Philippines is not included as a semifinalist every year he personally handpicked the delegates and see to it that Philippines is not included as a semifinalist because, if she does, she will make it all the way to the top 5 and even snatch the crown and give the other ladies a run for their money. To make sure people will not think that there is a personal animosity against the Philippines, they gave the Philippines the Photogenic awards in three consecutive years in a covert manner to deny their motives. Philippines is the weakest link, a negative force and against the business interests of Trump because of political upheavals, social unrests, rebel insurgencies and of course, harboring terrorists in the South making the country harmful to his assets and growing empire. In 2000 Miss Universe, Miss Philippines was literally removed from the list of semifinalist because she will give Miss India a run for her money because they were tied as a semifinalist. Despite the strong performance of the Philippines in 2006, the tentacles of Donald Trump is long enough to manipulate the result and the list of semi finalists to exclude and ignore the prowess of Lia Andrea Ramos. Controversies haunting the pageant is not only restricted to the Philippines’ delegation and participation but how the event takes place like the winning of Puerto Rico in her home country in 2001 and the unlikeliest and one of the ugliest Miss Universe in 2006 in the person of Zuleyka Rivera, who is skinny and who barely eats, stunned the pageant world. Controversial semifinalists includes first time participants China, in 2002, and Indonesia in 2005 with China finishing as 2nd runner up, Vietnam as a host country in 2008 and Thailand as a host country and sponsor of swimwear and casual outfits for the delegates so that Thailand can either be a semifinalist or a special award winner.
These kinds of trend will spell the eventual catastrophic end of Trump’s empire. Well there are obvious, too, like the falling of the crown twice in 2007 when Riyo Mori of Japan was crowned when he bowed that indicates a sorry foretelling of Trump’s circus & comic Miss Universe show and suddenly the crown fell and this year 2009 when Stefania Fernandez, who almost resembles Tyrannosaurus Rex because of her thick and strong facial features of Venezuela because of her panic and over excitement the crown fell and took her some time to get it - this is a clear indication that the empire is falling. Of course, the runners- up are bitter losers from 2006- 2008 which they usually don’t feel like making friends with the winners saying they can’t accept the results that it’s like the results were fabricated and manipulated by Trump to protect and highlight his business interests. Backstage drama like the immediate run away after the semifinalists were announced and stepping on the other ladies feet that also happens in Miss USA were signifying the glitz and glamor belies the grudges unsettling behind the curtains.
This year alone, there are lots of controversies surrounding Miss Universe that keeps on haunting the pageant until Trump will step down and hand it over to another organizer. Several countries withdrew from participating due to lack of sponsorships, lack of sponsorships, lack of attention and appreciation from Miss Universe and include them as semi finalists, vomiting from pictorials, several candidates lock up in the room. Some doesn’t like the food served. What’s more shocking is the finals night itself - Miss Universe 2009 is staged in a small venue in which people think the event is a formal small gathering of people who looks disinterested, indifferent and haggard. The event had transpired as if nothing happens because of a so so or trying hard performance of the night and haggard and dead walking candidates. The announcement of semi finalists were really heart breaking and high blood triggering because only a few of stunners and fierce fighters were included and most were Trumps favorites as he introduced the pageant opening saying “I know who will be the next Miss Universe.” Some of the lousy, worm infested, garbage candidates includes Puerto Rico, Croatia, Kosovo, Iceland, Albania, Sweden & Venezuela. The competition did not heat up instead its seemingly cold and lifeless swimsuit and evening gown competition will make me sleep in double jacket. The ticket sales turnout is low showing the growing disinterest of people is a sleazy pageant marred by controversies & scandals. The crown also looks inexpensive, poorly made, outdated, old style and poorly crafted indicating the ugliness and vanishing beauty of Miss Universe under Donald Trump. Finally, come the nerve wracking, mind boggling and deciding factor of all - the final question and answer wherein the candidates must answer some intriguing and some simple yet tricky questions in just a few seconds. I was completely stunned, frozen and jaw dropped when none of them gave the best answer that night leaving us with the impression that the ladies were stupid, brainless nuts with nothing to show - in short, utterly useless and hopeless drag queens. It makes me laugh horrendously when the announced Miss Universe answer is vague and blank as if she is just memorizing a script. The ladies are plainly leftovers out of trash. There is no bigger joke than the crown which Donald Trump instituted Nexus Labs to officially create a crown for the Miss Universe 2009 - the result was disaster of course - the company created three intricately crafted tiara for the people to choose which of the crowns will be used to crown the new Miss Universe but none of the created crown was a stand out because all three have the same substance, form and aesthetic design which is poorly crafted, tacky and trashy. I even imagine the new Miss Universe as a wrestler flexing her muscles bending the crown with all her strength to show its brittleness until it is broken into pieces and throw it to the audience and dance like an insane beggar on stage. At the end of the finals, Miss Philippines is in the background as a way of saying “Thank you girl, try your luck next time, You’re such a waste.”
However, the controversies don’t end before and after the coronation of the pageant. Days or months after the pageant if the winner committed a grace misconduct or behavior, Donald Trump tolerates the abuse like in the case of Miss USA 2006, Tara Conner is able to keep her crown due to the pampering and spoiling acts towards her by Mr. Trump even if being drunk is a serious offense by a beauty queen deemed as exemplary and good role model for women. Is this the slapstick or mockery or a circus show that the clown Trump wants to show to the world? He is a good actor, director, producer and a clown who perfectly combines all these things and takes advantage of the event or any other shows under his company even if it cost the reputation and dignity of the pageant to gain enormous benefits. He knows how to run, produce and finish the show while raking in a lion share of income and profit. People working under him doesn’t know they are being snared under his evil schemes and dirty tactics and should’ve well compensated millionaires already with lots of other perks if he is a good boss but he is an evil disguising in the form of a bulky, funny toupee wearing man.
I would have accepted the non-inclusion of Philippines as a semifinalist in this year's Miss Universe but the absence of fierce prowess and goddess from Europe, Asia and some Latinas is a severe injustice that people will clamor for Trump's resignation and ultimate hand over to a deserving and respected non-partisan organization to organize and establish Miss Universe back to its glory and admiration that was stained by Trump's greed and selfish ambitions.
Miss Universe is another reason why people around the world hates America not only for women clad in swimsuits but the way Trump handle the beauty pageant.
It would be best for Trump, if he still has the respect and dignity, to just hand over Miss Universe to a respected and admired non-partisan organization to organize and celebrate Miss Universe annually much to the delight of its worldwide audience who has an eye for beauty and elegance!
How could he ruin and humiliated a well so loved and well respected beauty pageant that all the women the world over aspired for and dream of? If he could even destroy and reduce into ashes in just a few years a beauty pageant that is taken cared of in decades, what’s more with the people working for him that for decades have been a victim of his tricks and magic. I would be ashamed and deny myself of my citizenship if my country still continues to send delegates into this stupid, mockery and blasphemous event. Donald Trump’s animosity is unstoppable. So will you continue to believe and work with Trump? Think twice before it’s too late!

Miss Universe trivia

The Miss Universe is a prestigious international event that has grown since its inception from 1952. The international beauty pageant with participants from over 80 nations is bound to have some interesting trivia. In this space we have provided you with such information that is not very commonly known. The origin of the Miss Universe beauty pageant was shrouded with a controversial start. The local bathing beauty contest, spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, CA metamorphosed into the international annual tradition of Miss Universe 2008. It was when Miss America 1951 Yoland Betbeze refused to wear swimwear for Catalina Swimwear that the brand’s manufacturer Pacific Mills pulled out of the event and started Miss Universe beauty pageant.

The controversies related to the event began from the inception of the beauty pageant. Armi Kuusela of Finland, who became the first Miss Universe in 1952, gave up her crown shortly before her one year reign as the Miss Universe ended. The beauty from Finland did so as she wished to get married to a Filipino tycoon, Virgilio Hilario. Another Miss Universe who resigned prior to the full one year completion as her Miss Universe reign was Miss Universe 1974, Amparo Munoz. Ms Munoz resigned her title in the six month of her reign.Though the event is bases on global harmony and equity, there have been incidents in the past when protests have occurred against some of the contestants of the event. In 1993, Miss USA Kenya Moore was booed by the local crowds, when the event was held in Mexico. Fourteen years later in 2007, when the event was again organized in Mexico, Miss USA Rachel Smith was booed by the local crowds owing to what they saw as US unfriendliness toward illegal immigrants. In another interesting incident Miss Universe 1996, Alicia Machado of Venezuela was warned by the Miss Universe organization as she had exceeded the maximum weight required during her reign.

In the year 1999, Miss Guam Universe Trisha Elaine Heflin was barred from participating in the Miss Universe 1999 for being pregnant. The Miss Universe 1999, Mpule Kwelagobe however won the title that year as she gave a fitting reply to the controversial question, whether a Miss Universe who became pregnant be allowed to continue her reign. The young lady from Botswana to the question replied that a Miss Universe should be allowed to continue her reign as being pregnant was a sign of femininity, which Miss Universe stands for. The Miss Universe 2007 was also a hotbed for interesting and unique information. Miss Sweden, Isabel Lestapier Winqvist, unexpectedly pulled out from the event owing to complaints in her country that the beauty pageant degrades women. Sweden has won the coveted crown three times in the past. It will be an interesting fact to note that no Miss Congeniality has ever gone to win the Miss Universe title. The newly constituted nation Kosovo has sent its delegate for Miss Universe 2008 for the first time in the beauty pageant in Vietnam.

Miss Universe 2009

We temporarily stop updating the coverage for the FIFA World CUp 2010 South Africa to give way to the coming pageants. Miss Universe will be the first and opening of a series of beauty pageants this August in Bahamas since it is the most glamorous and most prestigious event of all beauty pageants. By September, it will be the men's turn to shine when Mr. World wil be held in South Korea and later Miss Tourism Queen in China. Comes October, the second most important pageant of the grand slam that concerns the environment, Miss Earth will pave the way for the most glamorous and exotic young lady who will inherit the Mother Earth, Miss International will grace the month of November and finally Miss World will culminate this year's pageants in December.

This August we will feature all about Miss Universe, the most glamorous of all pageants. Started as a local swimwear competition in 1952 by Catalina swimwear and created the MiSS USA pageant after Miss America 1952 Yolanda Betbetze refused to wear the swimwear that Catalina Swimwear is a major sponsor of the pageant until the competition gained the attention of the international community and propose a bigger competition among nations thus the birth of Miss Universe in 1952.

The first Miss Universe was hed at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium, California on (date). An 18-year old blonde and blue-eyed lass from Muhos, Finland named Armi Kuusela captured the very first Miss Universe crown. She,however, did not finish her reign because after a whirlwind romance she later married the Filipino bachelor Virgilio Hilario but she remained as Miss Universe 1952. The next year, another European was crowned as Miss Universe 1953 in the person of Christiane Martel of France. Miss Universe is also evolving and is passed from one generation to another from Catalina swimwear to Donald Trump. Most winners of the pageant came from Latin Americas, Europe and Asia and a few from Africa and Caribbeans. Miss Universe remains the most glamorous and prestigious and biggest beauty pageant in the world considering the standards of winners, the prizes, the charitable cause and of course, the pageant itself. It is being watched by billions of audience around the world on a live broadcast on television. Several cities and countries already hosted the event including Long Beach, Miami Beach, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Honolulu in USA, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Athens, Greece, Manila in Philippines, San Salvador, El Salvador, Mexico City, Mexico, Seoul, South Korea, Taipei, Taiwan, Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, Windhoek, Namibia, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Nicosia, Cyprus, Panama City, Panama, Quito, Ecuador & Vietnam.

BOOTS FETISH

As I grow up during my teenage years, there are lots of physical changes to my body as I also explore my sexuality. My voice become big and hoarse. Lots of hair grew in my legs, armpit, and even private parts as well as beard and moustache. Pimples sprout like mushroom everywhere in my face are just examples of physical change that I need to live by and adjust to.
One of the funniest physical changes that happen in all guys is the "wet dreams". It occurs mostly during the early stages of teenage years and on nights when most of us are sound asleep and dreaming. When we are beautifully dreaming of something and our private part contracts and becomes hard, it pops and pops and explode lots of liquid and when we woke up, we are surprised to feel that we unloaded lots of sticky fluid that comes from within us, that we even barely know even in our unconscious state. It happends several times to me and when I open it out and tell my family about it, they just laugh at it and told me it is just a normal event happening to a guy. Because of this, I began to wonder ask myself questions and try to find answers to this mystery as I unfold the changes that is happening to me.
The kinkiest thought appears on mind thinking the releasing of something is fun, relaxing and satisfying. I notice when my thing converts into steel it can easily release some sticky fluid and the way to keep my thing strong and hard to keep myself tight. The way to keep me tight is through fit jeans but I have a loose jeans so I tie my jeans tight in my ankle with a string so I can be a steel and my way of releasing all my anger is by rubbing. I rub my steel inside my jeans through our stair. Most late evenings I go up and down the stairs to rub my steel and just to vent out my anger. So funny and ridiculous and what a shame on my part and a bit embarassment so I decided to keep it to mysef.
I keep on thinking on way of how to get rid of it not until I saw pictures of soldiers in boots then suddenly my thing stands upright and converted into steel and I can't go control myself venting out. So I got now the idea and explanations to my questions that keeps my bugging for years since I was young that each time I saw or wear some boots like shoes I feel tight and my thing converts into steel and when I was young I hate to wear sneakers that almost resemble boots not until now when I grew up and realize its purpose. The boots fetish as they say is most popular in western countries mostly German and surrounding European countries but is now gaining grounds in Americas as well. The boots are popularized in pop culture by the western world gang or group called Skinheads. The idea of getting myself tight by just wearing or seeing someone in boots makes me kinky. I wonder I feel like a woman sometimes by feeling tight. lol!

FIFA World Cup Trivia

Performances by host nations
See also: National team appearances in the FIFA World Cup#Results of host nations
Six of the seven champions have won one of their titles while playing in their own homeland, the exception being Brazil, who finished as runners-up after losing the deciding match on home soil in 1950.

England (1966) and France (1998) won their only titles while playing as host nations. Uruguay (1930), Italy (1934) and Argentina (1978) won their first titles as host nations but have gone on to win again, while Germany (1974) won their second title on home soil.

Other nations have also been successful when hosting the tournament. Sweden (runners-up in 1958), Chile (third place in 1962), Korea Republic (fourth place in 2002), Mexico (quarter-finals in 1970 and 1986), and Japan (second round in 2002) all have their best results when serving as hosts. So far, all host nations have progressed beyond the first round.

Best performances by continental zones
See also: National team appearances in the FIFA World Cup#Results by confederation
To date, the final of the World Cup has only been contested by European and South American teams. The two continents have won nine titles apiece. Only two teams from outside these two continents have ever reached the semi-finals of the competition: USA (North, Central America and Caribbean) in 1930 and Korea Republic (Asia) in 2002. The best result of an African team is reaching the quarter-finals: Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002. Oceania has only been represented in the World Cup three times, and an Oceanian qualifier has reached the second round once, as Australia qualified as an Oceanian nation in 2005, although they moved to the Asian Football Confederation before the beginning of the tournament.

All World Cups won by European teams have taken place in Europe and the only teams to have won outside Europe come from South America. The only non-European team to win a tournament in Europe is Brazil in 1958. Only twice have consecutive World Cups been won by teams from the same continent – when Italy and Brazil successfully defended their titles in 1938 and 1962 respectively.

Awards
Main article: FIFA World Cup awards
At the end of each World Cup, awards are presented to the players and teams for accomplishments other than their final team positions in the tournament. There are currently six awards:

The Golden Shoe (sometimes called the Golden Boot) for the top goalscorer (first awarded in 1982, but retrospectively applied to all tournaments from 1930); most recently, the Silver Shoe and the Bronze Shoe have been awarded to the second and third top goalscorers respectively;
The Golden Ball for the best player, determined by a vote of media members (first awarded in 1982); the Silver Ball and the Bronze Ball are awarded to the players finishing second and third in the voting respectively;
The Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper, decided by the FIFA Technical Study Group (first awarded in 1994);
The FIFA Fair Play Trophy for the team with the best record of fair play, according to the points system and criteria established by the FIFA Fair Play Committee (first awarded in 1978);
The Most Entertaining Team for the team that has entertained the public the most during the World Cup, determined by a poll of the general public (first awarded in 1994);
The Best Young Player Award for the best player aged 21 or younger at the start of the calendar year, decided by the FIFA Technical Study Group (first awarded in 2006).
An All-Star Team consisting of the best players of the tournament is also announced for each tournament since 1998.

Records and statistics

Main article: FIFA World Cup records
Two players share the record for playing in the most World Cups; Mexico's Antonio Carbajal and Germany's Lothar Matthäus both played in five tournaments. Matthäus has played the most World Cup matches overall, with 25 appearances. Brazil's Pelé is the only player to hold three World Cup winners' medals.

The overall leading goalscorer in World Cups is Brazil's Ronaldo, scorer of 15 goals in three tournaments. West Germany's Gerd Müller is second, with 14 goals in two tournaments. The third placed goalscorer, France's Just Fontaine, holds the record for the most goals scored in a single World Cup. All his 13 goals were scored in the 1958 tournament.

Brazil's Mário Zagallo and West Germany's Franz Beckenbauer are the only people to date to win the World Cup as both player and head coach. Zagallo won in 1958 and 1962 as a player and in 1970 as head coach. Beckenbauer won in 1974 as captain and in 1990 as head coach. Italy's Vittorio Pozzo is the only head coach to ever win two World Cups. All World Cup winning head coaches were natives of the country they coached to victory.

Notes
1.^ There was no official World Cup Third Place match in 1930; The United States and Yugoslavia lost in the semi-finals. FIFA now recognizes the United States as the third-placed team and Yugoslavia as the fourth-placed team, using the overall records of the teams in the tournament.[38]
2.^ a b There was no official World Cup final match in 1950.[39] The tournament winner was decided by a final round-robin group contested by four teams (Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden, and Spain). However, Uruguay's 2–1 victory over Brazil was the decisive match (and also coincidentally one of the last two matches of the tournament) which put them ahead on points and ensured that they finished top of the group as world champions. Therefore, this match is often considered the "final" of the 1950 World Cup.[40] Likewise, Sweden's 3–1 victory over Spain (played at the same time as Uruguay vs Brazil) ensured that they finished third.

Map of winning countries. In all, 75 nations have played in at least one World Cup.[41] Of these, only 11 have made it to the final match, and only seven have won. The seven national teams that have won the World Cup have added stars to the crest, located on their shirt, with each star representing a World Cup victory.

With five titles, Brazil are the most successful World Cup team and also the only nation to have played in every World Cup to date.[42] Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1958 and 1962) are the only nations to have won consecutive titles.

Below is a list of the 11 teams that have played in a World Cup final. Brazil and Germany each finished as either winners or runners-up seven times.

FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup, occasionally called the Football World Cup, but usually referred to simply as the World Cup, is an international football competition contested by the men's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946, because of World War II.
The current format of the tournament involves 32 teams competing for the title at venues within the host nation(s) over a period of about a month – this phase is often called the World Cup Finals. A qualification phase, which currently takes place over the preceding three years, is used to determine which teams qualify for the tournament together with the host nation(s). The World Cup is the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world, with an estimated 715.1 million people watching the 2006 final.
Of the 18 tournaments held, seven nations have won the title. Brazil are the only team that have played in every tournament and have won the World Cup a record five times. Italy are the current champions and have won four titles, and Germany are next with three. The other former champions are Uruguay, winners of the inaugural tournament, and Argentina, with two titles each, and England and France, with one title each.
The most recent World Cup was held in Germany in 2006. The next World Cup will be held in South Africa, between 11 June and 11 July 2010, and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.

History
Previous international competitions
The world's first international football match was a challenge match played in Glasgow in 1872 between Scotland and England, with the first international tournament, the inaugural edition of the British Home Championship, taking place in 1884. At this stage the sport was rarely played outside the United Kingdom. As football began to increase in popularity in other parts of the world at the turn of the century, it was held as a demonstration sport with no medals awarded at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics (however, the IOC has retroactively upgraded their status to official events), and at the 1906 Intercalated Games.
After FIFA was founded in 1904, there was an attempt made by FIFA to arrange an international football tournament between nations outside of the Olympic framework in Switzerland in 1906. These were very early days for international football, and the official history of FIFA describes the competition as having been a failure.
At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, football became an official competition. Planned by The Football Association (FA), England's football governing body, the event was for amateur players only and was regarded suspiciously as a show rather than a competition. Great Britain (represented by the England national amateur football team) won the gold medals. They repeated the feat in 1912 in Stockholm, where the tournament was organized by the Swedish Football Association.
With the Olympic event continuing to be contested only between amateur teams, Sir Thomas Lipton organized the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy tournament in Turin in 1909. The Lipton tournament was a championship between individual clubs (not national teams) from different nations, each one of which represented an entire nation. The competition is sometimes described as The First World Cup, and featured the most prestigious professional club sides from Italy, Germany and Switzerland, but the FA of England refused to be associated with the competition and declined the offer to send a professional team. Lipton invited West Auckland, an amateur side from County Durham, to represent England instead. West Auckland won the tournament and returned in 1911 to successfully defend their title, and were given the trophy to keep forever, as per the rules of the competition.
In 1914, FIFA agreed to recognise the Olympic tournament as a "world football championship for amateurs", and took responsibility for managing the event. This paved the way for the world's first intercontinental football competition, at the 1920 Summer Olympics, contested by Egypt and thirteen European teams, and won by Belgium. Uruguay won the next two Olympic football tournaments in 1924 and 1928.

First World Cup

Due to the success of the Olympic football tournaments, FIFA, with President Jules Rimet the driving force, again started looking at staging its own international tournament outside of the Olympics. On 28 May 1928, the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam decided to stage a world championship organised by FIFA. With Uruguay now two-time official football world champions (as 1924 was the start of FIFA's professional era) and to celebrate their centenary of independence in 1930, FIFA named Uruguay as the host country of the inaugural World Cup tournament.
The national associations of selected nations were invited to send a team, but the choice of Uruguay as a venue for the competition meant a long and costly trip across the Atlantic Ocean for European sides. Indeed, no European country pledged to send a team until two months before the start of the competition. Rimet eventually persuaded teams from Belgium, France, Romania, and Yugoslavia to make the trip. In total thirteen nations took part: seven from South America, four from Europe and two from North America.
The first two World Cup matches took place simultaneously on 18 July 1930, and were won by France and USA, who beat Mexico 4–1 and Belgium 3–0 respectively. The first goal in World Cup history was scored by Lucien Laurent of France. In the final, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4–2 in front of a crowd of 93,000 people in Montevideo, and became the first nation to win the World Cup.

Growth

After the creation of the World Cup, the
1932 Summer Olympics, held in Los Angeles, did not plan to include football as part of the schedule due to the low popularity of the sport in the United States, as American football had been growing in popularity. FIFA and the IOC also disagreed over the status of amateur players, and so football was dropped from the Games. Olympic football returned at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but was now overshadowed by the more prestigious World Cup.
The issues facing the early World Cup tournaments were the difficulties of intercontinental travel, and war. Few South American teams were willing to travel to Europe for the 1934 and 1938 tournaments, with Brazil the only South American team to compete in both. The 1942 and 1946 competitions were cancelled due to World War II and its aftermath.
The 1950 World Cup, held in Brazil, was the first to include British participants. British teams withdrew from FIFA in 1920, partly out of unwillingness to play against the countries they had been at war with, and partly as a protest against foreign influence on football, but rejoined in 1946 following FIFA's invitation. The tournament also saw the return of 1930 champions Uruguay, who had boycotted the previous two World Cups. Uruguay won the tournament again by defeating the host nation Brazil in one of the most famous matches in World Cup history, which was later called the "Maracanazo" (Portuguese: Maracanaço).
In the tournaments between 1934 and 1978, 16 teams competed in each tournament, except in 1938, when Austria were absorbed into Germany after qualifying, leaving the tournament with 15 teams, and in 1950, when India, Scotland and Turkey withdrew, leaving the tournament with 13 teams. Most of the participating nations were from Europe and South America, with a small minority from North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. These teams were usually defeated easily by the European and South American teams. Until 1982, the only teams from outside Europe and South America to advance out of the first round were: USA, semi-finalists in 1930; Cuba, quarter-finalists in 1938; Korea DPR, quarter-finalists in 1966; and Mexico, quarter-finalists in 1970.
The tournament was expanded to 24 teams in 1982, and then to 32 in 1998, allowing more teams from Africa, Asia and North America to take part. The one exception is Oceania, who have never had a guaranteed spot in the tournament. In recent years, teams from these regions have enjoyed more success, and those who have reached the quarter-finals include: Mexico, quarter-finalists in 1986; Cameroon, quarter-finalists in 1990; Korea Republic, finishing in fourth place in 2002; and Senegal and USA, both quarter-finalists in 2002. However, European and South American teams have remained the stronger forces. For example, the quarter-finalists in 2006 were all from Europe or South America.
198 nations attempted to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and a record 204 will attempt to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Other FIFA tournaments

An equivalent tournament for
women's football, the FIFA Women's World Cup, was first held in 1991 in the People's Republic of China. The women's tournament is smaller in scale and profile than the men's, but is growing; the number of entrants for the 2007 tournament was 120, more than double that of 1991.
Football has been included in every Summer Olympic Games except 1896 and 1932. Unlike many other sports, the men's football tournament at the Olympics is not a top-level tournament, and since 1992, an under-23 tournament with each team allowed three over-age players. Women's football made its Olympic debut in 1996, and is contested between full national sides with no age restrictions.
The FIFA Confederations Cup is a tournament held one year before the World Cup at the World Cup host nation(s) as a dress-rehearsal for the upcoming World Cup. It is contested by the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championships, along with the FIFA World Cup champion and the host country.
FIFA also organizes international tournaments for youth football (FIFA U-20 World Cup, FIFA U-17 World Cup, FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup), club football (FIFA Club World Cup), and football variants such as futsal (FIFA Futsal World Cup) and beach soccer (FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup).

Trophy

From 1930 to 1970, the Jules Rimet Trophy was awarded to the World Cup winner. It was originally simply known as the World Cup or Coupe du Monde, but in 1946 it was renamed after the FIFA president Jules Rimet who set up the first tournament. In 1970, Brazil's third victory in the tournament entitled them to keep the trophy permanently. However, the trophy was stolen in 1983, and has never been recovered, apparently melted down by the thieves.
After 1970, a new trophy, known as the FIFA World Cup Trophy, was designed. The experts of FIFA, coming from seven different countries, evaluated the 53 presented models, finally opting for the work of the Italian designer Silvio Gazzaniga. The new trophy is 36 cm (14.2 in) high, made of solid 18 carat (75%) gold and weighs 6.175 kg (13.6 lb). The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite while the bottom side of the trophy bears the engraved year and name of each FIFA World Cup winner since 1974. The description of the trophy by Gazzaniga was: "The lines spring out from the base, rising in spirals, stretching out to receive the world. From the remarkable dynamic tensions of the compact body of the sculpture rise the figures of two athletes at the stirring moment of victory."
This new trophy is not awarded to the winning nation permanently. World Cup winners retain the trophy until the next tournament and are awarded a gold-plated replica rather than the solid gold original.

Selection of Hosts
Early World Cups were given to countries at meetings of FIFA's congress. The choice of location gave rise to controversies, a consequence of the three-week boat journey between South America and Europe, the two centres of strength in football. The decision to hold the first World Cup in Uruguay, for example, led to only four European nations competing. The next two World Cups were both held in Europe. The decision to hold the second of these, the 1938 FIFA World Cup, in France was controversial, as the American countries had been led to understand that the World Cup would rotate between the two continents. Both Argentina and Uruguay thus boycotted the tournament.
Since the 1958 FIFA World Cup, to avoid future boycotts or controversy, FIFA began a pattern of alternating the hosts between the Americas and Europe, which continued until the 1998 FIFA World Cup. The 2002 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by South Korea and Japan, was the first one held in Asia, and the only tournament with multiple hosts. In 2010, South Africa will become the first African nation to host the World Cup. The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Brazil, the first held in South America since 1978, and will be the first occasion where consecutive World Cups are held outside Europe.

FIFA receives eleven bids for 2018 and 2022 World Cups
The host country is now chosen in a vote by FIFA's Executive Committee. This is done under a single transferable vote system. The national football association of a country desiring to host the event receives a "Hosting Agreement" from FIFA, which explains the steps and requirements that are expected from a strong bid. The bidding association also receives a form, the submission of which represents the official confirmation of the candidacy. After this, a FIFA designated group of inspectors visit the country to identify that the country meets the requirements needed to host the event and a report on the country is produced. The decision on who will host the World Cup is usually made six or seven years in advance of the tournament. However, there have been occasions where the hosts of multiple future tournaments were announced at the same time, as will be the case for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
For the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, the final tournament is rotated between confederations, allowing only countries from the chosen confederation (Africa in 2010, South America in 2014) to bid to host the tournament. The rotation policy was introduced after the controversy surrounding Germany's victory over South Africa in the vote to host the 2006 tournament. However, the policy of continental rotation will not continue beyond 2014, so any country, except those belonging to confederations that hosted the two preceding tournaments, can apply as hosts for World Cups starting from 2018. This is partly to avoid a similar scenario to the bidding process for the 2014 tournament, where Brazil was the only official bidder.

The World Cup was first televised in 1954 and is now the most widely-viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding even the Olympic Games. The cumulative audience of all matches of the 2006 World Cup is estimated to be 26.29 billion. 715.1 million individuals watched the final match of this tournament (a ninth of the entire population of the planet). The 2006 World Cup draw, which decided the distribution of teams into groups, was watched by 300 million viewers.
Each FIFA World Cup since 1966 has its own mascot. World Cup Willie, the mascot for the 1966 competition, was the first World Cup mascot.
